Impaled on the Horns of a Dilemma, or, To Knit or Polish My Nails

Faced with the choice of occupying 2 hours with wet nails, or knitting 2" of something, I usually choose by not choosing at all, and reach instead for some cosy mystery novel. Today, however, as a reward for completing the Quant (Knitty.com winter 2007) during one episode of General Hospital and the whole Love is a Many Splendored Thing, I decided I had earned a rest to do my nails. They now exactly match my Ladylike Cropped Jacket, as well as the tweed flecks in the Quant.

The Quant is a mod scarf which one might imagine on Audrey Hepburn in Charade. I, being neither Audrey Hepburn nor on any ski slopes in France, cannot pull off the look, so this will soon be a gift for someone.

Ho hum, back to the Lacy Ribbed Scarf tedium. I find it incredibly difficult to get into any rhythm over an 18 stitch row, but I'm forcing myself to finish; I refuse to abandon my resolution to "finish more" before January is over. Again, I don't wear scarves (scarfs), so a gift for someone...

No, I haven't abandoned the socks, neither are they finished. The heel has turned (not to be confused with the worm), the gusset cosseted, and await re-positioning as soon as I borrow some small dpns. I promise they'll be done before Clark Gable's next birthday. Maybe even before Mikhail Baryshnikov's birthday.

The Knitter's Theory of Relativity

Expanding on Einstein's dreams, my theory says that all projects being relative, the time needed to complete a small project such as a hat or socks, takes the same time as to complete a larger project, say, a long-sleeved sweater. Or does it just seem like these damn socks are endless...
